Frequently asked questions

About AUTU.lt

How do I post a listing on AUTU.lt?

Log in (or register), click "Post a listing", choose a category, fill in the vehicle details, upload photos and publish. The listing becomes visible to everyone immediately.

Is posting a listing paid?

It depends on the plan you choose — a flat monthly fee for one listing, or a credit bundle for several listings at once. You'll see the exact price on the listing page right before publishing.

What are credits and how do they work when buying a multi-listing bundle?

Credits are a pre-purchased listing bundle (e.g. 10, 20 or 40 credits), where 1 credit = 1 listing for 1 month. Your balance is shown in your account, and 1 credit is deducted automatically each time you post a new listing, with no extra payment.

How long does a published listing stay active?

A listing stays active for 30 days from publication. Once it expires, you can renew it for another month.

How do I renew an expired listing?

In your account's "My listings" section, click "Renew" next to the expired listing — if you have credits, one is used automatically; otherwise you'll be taken to pay for the renewal.

How do I register as a dealer (company) on AUTU.lt?

On the registration form choose "Dealer", enter your company name and code (or your personal code for sole proprietorship), address and contacts. After registering you'll get a dealer profile page listing all your ads.

What's the difference between a private-seller and a dealer (company) account?

A dealer account has a public profile page listing all its ads, a logo and contacts, and a VAT invoice is generated automatically at the end of each month for its listings. A private account is meant for individual listings without these business features.

Can I edit a listing after it's published?

Yes, from your account you can change the price, description, photos or any other field at any time.

How many photos can I add to a listing, and what file formats do you accept (e.g. from an iPhone)?

You can upload up to 30 photos in JPG, PNG, WebP or HEIC/HEIF (iPhone) format — HEIC photos are converted automatically, so no extra steps are needed.

What payment methods does AUTU.lt accept?

Payments go through Paysera — you can pay by bank transfer or card.

How does a dealer get a VAT invoice for their listings?

Invoices are generated automatically at the end of each month, combining all payments made that month, and are available in the "Invoices and payments" section of your account.

How do I contact a listing's seller through AUTU.lt?

The listing page shows the seller's phone number, and once logged in you can also send a message directly through the site without sharing your own contact details publicly.

How do I save a search and get an email when a new matching listing appears?

After setting your filters on the search page, you'll find a "Save this search" button at the bottom — enter your email and you'll get a message every time a new matching listing appears.

Can I check a car's history or VIN through AUTU.lt?

A seller can include the VIN in a listing, but there's no built-in automated history check yet — we recommend verifying the VIN through official registries before buying.

How do I avoid scams when buying a car online?

Never transfer money before seeing the car in person, check the documents and VIN, and meet in a public place, ideally with a witness. Suspiciously low prices or pressure to rush are usually signs of a scam.

Why was my listing rejected, and what should I do?

A rejected listing gets a reason by email and in your account — usually unclear photos or inaccurate information. Once you fix the issue and save the listing, it becomes active again immediately, with no extra charge.

How do I mark a listing as sold or remove it?

In your account's "My listings" section, each listing has action buttons — you can mark it as sold or archive/remove it.

How do I reset a forgotten account password?

On the login page click "Forgot your password?", enter your email, and within a few minutes you'll get a link to set a new one.

What vehicle categories can I list on AUTU.lt?

Cars, trucks, buses, motorcycles, trailers & campers, agricultural machinery, construction machinery, watercraft, car parts, and tires & wheels.

Can I list just car parts or tires, not a whole vehicle?

Yes, "Car parts" and "Tires & wheels" are separate categories made exactly for that.

How to sell your car faster

How do I price my car to sell fast without underselling it?

Compare a few listings of the same model, year and mileage on the site, and set a price that's competitive but leaves a little room to negotiate.

How many photos should I upload and how should I take them?

We recommend 15–20 photos in daylight: the car from every angle, the interior, the dashboard, the engine bay and any damage — the more, the more buyers trust the listing.

Which parts of the car are worth photographing to build buyer trust?

Tire tread, brakes, the engine bay, interior condition, the odometer reading on the dashboard, and the technical inspection document.

How do I write an attractive, informative listing description?

Briefly highlight the main strengths, then describe the technical condition, past repairs and maintenance honestly, without exaggeration.

What information should always be in the listing so buyers don't keep calling with the same questions?

Exact mileage, engine type and size, gearbox, technical inspection validity, whether there's any damage, and whether the price is negotiable.

When's the best time (day/hour) to post a listing for maximum visibility?

Activity peaks on weekend evenings and Monday mornings, when people are planning viewings for the week.

Is it worth noting that the price is negotiable?

Yes, if you're genuinely willing to negotiate — it draws more calls, but set a realistic starting price so you don't look too flexible.

How quickly should I reply to buyer messages and calls so I don't lose them?

Try to reply within a few hours — interested buyers usually call several sellers at once and go with whoever answers first.

Is it worth prepping the car (washing, cleaning) before photographing it?

Definitely — a clean, shiny car looks better cared-for in photos and creates a first impression that directly affects whether a buyer calls.

What problems or defects should I disclose honestly to avoid disputes later?

Any known faults, accident history, rust or repainting — hidden defects usually surface during the viewing and destroy trust in the deal.

How do I show the car has been properly maintained (service book, receipts)?

Photograph the service book or recent repair receipts and mention them in the description — one of the strongest arguments for a buyer.

Is it worth stating why you're selling the car?

Yes, it lowers a buyer's suspicion — e.g. "upgrading to a family car" sounds more trustworthy than no explanation at all.

How do I check market prices for similar cars before setting mine?

Use AUTU.lt's search filters and compare prices of listings with the same model, year and mileage before posting yours.

How often is it worth renewing (bumping) a listing to keep it near the top?

A listing can be renewed once a month, after it expires — renewing more often than that usually isn't necessary.

Is it worth filming a short video instead of, or alongside, photos?

Photos are currently the main format for a listing, but a link to a short video (e.g. on YouTube) in the description can further boost buyer confidence.

How do I safely meet a buyer for a viewing and test drive?

Choose a public, well-lit place during the day, bring a friend or family member along, and never hand over the keys or documents before the buyer has paid.

What documents should I prepare in advance for a quick sale?

The vehicle's registration certificate, technical inspection document, your ID, and, if available, the service history — having everything on hand lets you complete the deal in a single meeting.

Is it worth listing the car in multiple categories or on multiple platforms at once?

Posting it once, in the single most fitting category on AUTU.lt, is enough — duplicating listings can confuse buyers and make managing them harder.

What should I do if a buyer tries to negotiate the price down during the viewing?

Decide your lowest acceptable price in advance and stick to it politely but firmly — real arguments (e.g. a recently passed inspection) help you defend the price.

What are the most common mistakes that keep a listing from selling?

A price set too high, too few or low-quality photos, an incomplete description, and slow replies to buyer messages — the four most common reasons a listing doesn't sell quickly.
